The average lifespan of a dog is about 13 years. As it is such a long and dedicated commitment, you need to think things through. While a puppy may seem cute, you must realize that he will get older, and you will still be accountable for him. You have to pay extra attention to older dogs and get stuff like orthopedic dog beds for them as they have trouble sleeping. Moreover, dogs develop a deep and emotional connection with their families. If you think about changing ownership, let me tell you that it can be very traumatic for the dog.

Owning a Dog Can be Expensive

Last but not least, before you bring a dog to your home, you must realize that caring for a dog is going to take a toll on your pockets. You have to make sure that you have all the basic supplies like a dog collar, ID tag, a leash, dog food, dog bed, and toys for him. On top of that, you have to take him to the vet and give him basic shots so that he doesn’t catch any disease. On average, dogs can cost about $1000 dollars in a year, and emergency care can rise up to $5000. If you think that you are not ready to make such a commitment, you can get a pet that’s easy to take care of, like a fish or a turtle.
