We live in a fast pace society and want answers fast, so the answer as to whether you should give your dog hemp is a or not resounding yes! Both CBD hemp oil and hemp seed oil are fantastic ways to improve the health of our fur babies in a multitude of ways. You can give them just one or both oils to increase the therapeutic health benefits.
But CBD hemp oil and hemp seed are different despite both being derived from hemp and they both have different health benefits, so let’s not waste anymore time and find out why you should be giving your dog hemp.
CBD Hemp Oil
If you could only give your pets one derivative of hemp it should be CBD oil. CBD (Cannabidiol) has pet owners raving about it and it’s easy to see why. CBD can help dogs with both temporary and chronic health condition that range from relieving mild pain to preventing seizures.
Cancer, epilepsy, anxiety, and inflammation are just a few reasons pet owners are giving their pets CBD. And the list of ways CBD can help goes on and on.
So, you’re rightfully wondering how the hell it helps with all these different medical conditions. Is it snake oil? The answer is no, and I’m not going to proclaim that CBD is a miracle drug despite its many therapeutic benefits either.
CBD works great for so many illnesses because it promotes and engages an internal system, known as the endocannabinoid system (ECS) which plays a vital role in homeostasis. Think of it as the body’s natural check and balance system. This system consists of various receptors and neurotransmitters and is found in you, your dog, and well . . . every single mammal on this plant. Scientist now believed that the endocannabinoid system first evolved in animals over 600 million ago!
Many people see the overwhelmingly positive benefits and end up taking CBD oil for themselves as well. Which is great since it works for us in the same way. CBD also attaches to a few other receptors that when activated relieve stress, pain, inflammation, and promote general well being.
Now, while CBD results in a better and more peaceful mindset, it’s not doing this in the same way or to the extent that THC (tetrahydrocannabinol) does. THC is psychoactive, which is what causes the high when smoking marijuana. CBD is non-psychoactive and will not get you or your dog ston.
Hemp Seed Oil
Hemp seed oil is derived from cold pressing hemp seeds, and while it does not contain CBD, that doesn’t mean it’s not great for your health.
Where CBD hemp oil is great for specific and more serious chronic health conditions, hemp seed oil is great for improving your pet’s general health. Hemp seed oil is rich in omega 3, 6, and 9 fatty acids as well as being rich in protein, polyunsaturated fatty acids, and insoluble fiber.
Hemp seed oil is even better than fish or flax seed based oils because it has the perfect ratio of Omega 6 to Omega 3 (3:1).
What this all means for your pup is:
- Healthier skin and fur
- Stronger immune system
- More energy
- And promotion of a healthy weight
Is there anything I should worry about when giving hemp to my dog?
Hemp is one of the safest things you can give your pet, but as with all things, there are things to be on the lookout for.
With hemp seed oil, you’ll want to watch the high-fat content, and while it’s healthy fat it can still cause some issues such as diarrhea or weight gain if you give too much.
For CBD hemp oil you want to make sure it’s derived from hemp and not cannabis. CBD derived from cannabis contains THC which in high doses is toxic to dogs. As well you’ll want to check with your veterinarian if your pup is already on any medication as CBD may affect the absorption of RX drugs.
Why not make it easy and give both in one!
CBD oil is very concentrated and needs to be mixed with a carrier oil to dilute it. So, make sure to check out Innovet pet store because they mix use hemp oil for their carrier oil making for a fantastic one-two therapeutic powerhouse.
