Because dogs have a different digestive system to humans, they have a hard time digesting certain food. Consuming human treats might have a dangerous effect on your dog and cause uncomfortable medical conditions.

Apart from giving your dog a balanced meal of either dry or wet food, you should also consider the ingredients within these products. Some human foods are safe for canines to digest.

Rice

Dogs who suffer from digestive problems can benefit from eating unflavored white rice that’s cooked.

Carrots

Carrots mashed up and mixed in with dry pellets are a healthy source of vitamin A. It also improves your dog’s coat and immune system.

Dairy

Canines have low lactase levels, which means that they can’t digest too many milky foods. Dairy products like cheese, plain yogurt, and milk are safe in small quantities.

Fish

Even though your dog might not enjoy fishy foods as much as your cat, tuna, and salmon are great sources of protein.

Peanut Butter

Peanut butter without any added preservatives and sugars are excellent sources of vitamins and healthy fats.

UNHEALTHY

On the flip side, there are a few toxic foods and beverages that you should never let your pup consume.

Avoid giving them any of the following:

Alcohol

This is a toxic substance that can cause a lack of co-ordination and bad breath. If your pup overindulges in alcohol, he can suffer from alcohol poisoning and even death.

Cooked Bones

Dogs are known for chomping down on hard bones. Giving them uncooked bones to chew on during the day is a great source of nutrition as well as ensuring excellent dental hygiene.

When you cook bones before you give it to your four-legged friend, it becomes soft. This will cause the bones to break down and splinter causing damage to the internal organs.

Chocolate

Even though we’d love to enjoy an entire box of chocolates with our furry friends on a Friday night, it’s definitely not a good idea. Chocolates and candies are filled with Xylitol, sugars, and caffeine. Substances that cause restlessness, heightened heart rate, and obesity.

Salty Snacks

Yes, your pooch might dive down in a tub of expired food, but that doesn’t mean that it’s good for them. Bad food contains bacteria that are filled with toxins that will damage their digestive system.

Nicotine

In the same way that second-hand smoke is dangerous to humans, they are extra toxic to dogs. Most tobacco products contain high levels of nicotine that can cause increased heart rate, fatigue, and uncontrollable shaking.

Other toxic foods include raw meats and eggs (because of Salmonella), avocados, cinnamon, ice cream, nuts, bread dough, and raisins.

To ensure your pet lives a happy and healthy life, you should always be aware of what they are eating.
